200-Hour Yoga
Teacher Training

Residential, Yoga Alliance RYS 200, and deliberately small. Taught in the Rishikesh tradition, 500 metres from Robber's Cave.

The Course

A 200-hour training
for eight people, not eighty

Shivoham Retreat is a Yoga Alliance Registered School (RYS 200). Our 200-hour residential yoga teacher training runs on the same property our guests stay at, in Sinola, Malsi, about 10 km from the Dehradun Clock Tower and roughly 45 km from Rishikesh.

The scale is the whole point. The property holds a maximum of eight people at a time, so a cohort here is smaller than at almost any school you will find. Nobody practises at the back of a hall. Adjustments are hands-on, questions get answered when you ask them, and your teaching practicum is watched by someone who already knows how you breathe.

It is residential: you stay here, you eat three sattvic vegetarian meals a day from our permaculture garden, and you practise where you sleep. Graduates are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as RYT 200.

Curriculum

Six threads, woven across the course

The syllabus follows the Yoga Alliance 200-hour standard. How it is taught follows the Rishikesh tradition: slowly, with breath before posture, and with far more practice than theory.

01

Hatha & Asana Practice

Daily sunrise practice in the Rishikesh tradition. Alignment, sequencing and the intelligent use of props, taught slowly enough to feel what each posture is actually doing.

02

Pranayama & Breathwork

The classical breathing practices and the physiology underneath them. Breath is treated as the first teacher, not an add-on to the asana class.

03

Yoga Nidra & Meditation

Guided yogic sleep, seated meditation, and the practical skill of holding silence for a room without filling it.

04

Anatomy & Physiology

Functional anatomy for teachers: joints, spine, breath mechanics, and how to keep a student safe when their body does not match the diagram.

05

Philosophy & Ethics

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the eight limbs, and the ethics of teaching. What it means to hold space for someone else's practice.

06

Teaching Methodology

Cueing, demonstration, hands-on adjustment, class structure and voice. You teach, you are observed, and then you teach again.

Questions we are asked most

Is the training Yoga Alliance registered?

Yes. Shivoham Retreat is a Yoga Alliance Registered School (RYS 200). On completing the 200-hour course you are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200).

Do I need to be able to do advanced postures?

No. You need a sincere, regular practice rather than an advanced one. The course is taught slowly, with breath before posture, and postures are adapted to the body in front of the teacher rather than the other way round.

Is accommodation included?

Yes, this is a residential course. You stay on the property in Sinola, Malsi, and three sattvic vegetarian meals a day are included, with vegetables from our own permaculture garden.

How large are the groups?

Very small. The property hosts a maximum of eight guests at a time, so a training group here is smaller than at almost any other school. Every student gets individual attention and hands-on adjustment.

What are the dates and the fee?

Course dates and fees are shared on enquiry, because we run small cohorts and schedule them around the season. Send us your preferred month and we will reply within 4-6 hours with the next available dates and a full fee breakdown.

Where exactly is the school?

In Sinola, Malsi, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. It is 500 metres from Robber's Cave and about 10 km from the Dehradun Clock Tower, with Rishikesh roughly 45 km away.
