200 Hour Yoga TTC in Dehradun for a strong foundation in yoga

A 200 Hour Yoga TTC in Dehradun is an immersive training programme created to take students beyond the experience of attending a regular yoga class.

In a daily class, the primary focus is usually your own practice. During a teacher training course, you begin asking deeper questions. Why is an asana performed in a particular way? How does breath affect movement? How should a class be sequenced? How can an instructor communicate safely and clearly? What do traditional yogic teachings say about the practice beyond the mat?

The Yoga Teacher Training in Dehradun at Shivoham Retreat brings these elements together through theory, practice, observation and teaching experience. The course is suitable whether your goal is to eventually teach yoga or simply to develop a more disciplined understanding of your personal practice.

Students explore:

If you are looking for a structured yoga course in Dehradun rather than occasional classes, a 200-hour programme gives you the opportunity to study yoga as a complete system.

Why Shivoham

Why choose Shivoham Retreat for yoga teacher training in Dehradun?

Yoga education needs more than a timetable. Your surroundings, teachers, routine and community all influence how deeply you are able to engage with the practice. Shivoham Retreat creates an environment where students can step away from everyday distractions and dedicate focused time to learning.

Traditional Approach

Explore yoga through practices rooted in traditional principles, while understanding how they can be approached responsibly in modern life.

Experienced Yoga Faculty

The course is led by Tripti, who guides the practical sessions, discussions, demonstrations and supervised teaching practice throughout the four months.

Personal Attention

With only 7-8 students in a batch, there is room to ask questions, understand corrections and develop at your own pace. Tripti teaches every cohort personally, so you learn directly from her rather than from an assistant.

Practical Teaching Sessions

Teacher training is not only theoretical. Students gradually learn how to demonstrate, instruct, sequence and communicate during a yoga class.

Peaceful Learning Environment

Dehradun's greenery and Himalayan foothill setting provide a naturally calming atmosphere for yoga practice, meditation and self-study.

Yogic Lifestyle

The course encourages consistency, mindfulness, disciplined practice and greater awareness of daily habits.

Supportive Community

Train alongside people who may come from different backgrounds but share a common intention to understand yoga more deeply.

Syllabus

What you will learn during the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Hatha Yoga

Study foundational yoga postures through regular practice, alignment awareness and an understanding of how different asanas work together. The focus is not simply on achieving difficult postures, but on developing stability, awareness and consistency.

Ashtanga Yoga

Explore structured and dynamic yoga sequences that develop concentration, strength, mobility and discipline. Students are introduced to the importance of breath, movement and continuity within practice.

Pranayama

Learn traditional breathing practices and understand how breath awareness can support concentration, emotional steadiness and asana practice. Sessions introduce different pranayama techniques gradually, according to the course structure.

Meditation

Develop a consistent meditation practice through guided techniques designed to improve awareness, observation and mental focus. Meditation becomes an integral part of the training rather than an occasional activity.

Yoga Philosophy

Explore the principles that form the philosophical foundation of yoga. Students are introduced to traditional yogic concepts and learn how philosophy relates to practice, teaching and everyday life.

Yoga Anatomy & Physiology

Understand the body's basic structures and movement patterns relevant to yoga. The aim is to help aspiring teachers approach movement more responsibly and understand why every body may experience an asana differently.

Alignment & Adjustment

Explore alignment principles, common mistakes and different approaches to guiding students safely. Students learn that adjustment is not about forcing the body into an ideal shape, but about supporting a more conscious practice.

Teaching Methodology

Learn the practical skills required to guide a yoga class: communication, demonstration, observation, instruction, class management, student interaction and teaching confidence.

Yoga Sequencing

Understand how individual postures can be connected to create logical and balanced yoga classes. Students gradually explore sequencing for different levels and class objectives.

Mantra & Meditation Practices

Experience traditional mantra practices alongside meditation, and learn about their role within yogic traditions.

Mudras & Bandhas

Develop an introductory understanding of selected mudras and bandhas, and how they relate to traditional yoga practice.

Shatkarma / Yogic Cleansing

Students are introduced to traditional yogic cleansing techniques under suitable guidance.

Teaching Practicum

Put your learning into practice by planning and conducting supervised yoga sessions. Feedback helps you identify strengths, improve communication and develop confidence as an instructor.

Class Schedule

How a week runs on your yoga teacher training in Dehradun

Classes run six days a week, Monday to Saturday, as a single two-hour session. You choose the morning batch or the evening batch at enrolment and stay with it for the course. There are no afternoon sessions, which is exactly why the 200 hours are spread across four months instead of being compressed into a month away from home.

Option 1

Morning batch

A two-hour session before the working day starts, for students who want to practise early and keep their evenings free.

Option 2

Evening batch

A two-hour session after work or college, for students holding a full-time job or running a household through the day.

What a two-hour session covers

Every session
Each class opens with meditation and pranayama to settle attention and breath, then moves into asana practice developing strength, mobility, alignment and concentration.
Across the week
Practice alternates with theory. Yoga philosophy, anatomy and alignment are taught in rotation through the week rather than crammed into one long day, so each subject has room to settle.
Later months
Sessions shift towards teaching methodology and the supervised practicum: sequencing a class, giving clear instructions, demonstrating postures and assisting other students.
Between sessions
Self-study, reading and home practice continue on your own. This is where the four-month format earns its length, because you practise what you learned before the next class comes around.

Session timings for each batch are confirmed when that batch is announced. Subjects and the order in which they are covered may vary according to the training schedule, teacher availability and course requirements.

Day Course

A day course built around your working life

This is a day programme, not a residential one. You attend a two-hour class six days a week and go home afterwards, which is exactly why the 200 hours are spread across four months rather than compressed into a single month away.

Most people who want to teach yoga already have a job, a family, or both, and cannot disappear to an ashram for four weeks. Spreading the same 200 hours over four months lets you absorb the material between sessions instead of racing through it, and lets you practise what you learned before the next session comes around.

The curriculum, the contact hours and the certification are identical to an intensive course. What changes is the pace, not the depth. Part-time and day formats are recognised by Yoga Alliance in the same way as intensive ones.

What this means practically:

If you are travelling in from outside Dehradun and would prefer to stay nearby, we do have guest rooms at the retreat. That is booked separately from the course and is not part of the training fee.

Meet your yoga teacher

The quality of a yoga teacher training depends greatly on the person guiding it. At Shivoham Retreat you are taught by one teacher throughout, not rotated between visiting faculty.

Tripti

Tripti leads the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Shivoham Retreat. She teaches every cohort personally, from the morning asana practice through philosophy, alignment and the supervised teaching practicum, so she knows how each student practises by the time the practicum begins.

Why one teacher matters

With batches of only 7-8 students and a single teacher across all four months, corrections build on each other. Nothing is repeated from scratch because a new instructor has taken over, and your teaching practicum is observed by someone who has watched your practice develop from the first session.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course?

A 200-hour yoga teacher training is a structured programme that introduces students to yoga beyond regular asana classes. The curriculum generally combines physical practice with pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy, anatomy, alignment, teaching methodology and practical teaching experience. At Shivoham Retreat, the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course in Dehradun is designed to help students strengthen their own practice while beginning to understand how yoga can be communicated and taught responsibly.

Who can join the 200 Hour Yoga TTC in Dehradun?

The course is suitable for aspiring yoga teachers, regular practitioners, wellness professionals and committed beginners who want to study yoga more deeply. You do not necessarily need to be highly flexible or already able to perform advanced postures. More important is a willingness to practise consistently and engage seriously with the course. Please contact us to confirm the current eligibility requirements before registering.

Can beginners join yoga teacher training?

Beginners may join a 200-hour teacher training provided they meet the course's admission criteria and are prepared for regular practice and study. Teacher training is not a competition in flexibility. It is an educational process that develops understanding gradually. Students completely new to yoga may also consider foundation yoga courses in Dehradun or regular classes before enrolling, if they would prefer to build confidence first.

What are the class timings for the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training?

Classes run six days a week, Monday to Saturday, and each session lasts two hours. Students attend one session a day, not two: you choose either the morning batch or the evening batch at enrolment and stay with that batch through the course. There are no afternoon sessions, so the rest of your day stays free for work, study or family. Exact clock timings for each batch are confirmed when that batch is announced.

How long does a 200 Hour Yoga TTC take?

At Shivoham Retreat the 200 hours are spread across four months as a day course, with classes six days a week, Monday to Saturday, in a single two-hour session. Some schools deliver the same hours intensively over three to four weeks; we run it part-time instead, so students can train without taking a month off work. The exact starting date, completion date and session-day timetable are published for each batch.

What will I learn during the course?

The curriculum combines practice and theory. Students study Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga-based practice, pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy, anatomy and physiology, alignment, teaching methodology, class sequencing, mantra, mudras, bandhas and practical teaching. The aim is to help you understand not only how to perform yoga practices, but also why they are taught and how to communicate them responsibly to others.

Is accommodation included in the yoga teacher training fee?

No. This is a day course, so accommodation is not included in the training fee and is not required. You attend the scheduled session days and go home afterwards. If you are travelling in from outside Dehradun and would prefer to stay nearby, we do have guest rooms at the retreat, but those are booked separately from the course.

Are meals included during the yoga course?

Meals are not included in the course fee, as this is a day programme rather than a residential one. Refreshments such as herbal tea are provided during session days. If you would like meals arranged on session days, or have specific dietary requirements, please mention it when you enquire and our team will tell you what can be organised.

What certification will I receive after completing the course?

Shivoham Retreat is a Yoga Alliance Registered School (RYS 200). Students who meet the required attendance, coursework, practical teaching and assessment conditions receive the 200-hour certificate and are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200). Part-time and day formats are recognised in the same way as intensive courses.

Can international students join the course?

International students can enquire about joining the training, subject to our admission process, availability and applicable travel or visa requirements. Dehradun provides access to Uttarakhand's Himalayan region while remaining connected by road, rail and air. International applicants should contact the admissions team in advance to understand course dates, accommodation, payment requirements and any documents they should prepare before travelling to India.

What should I bring for yoga teacher training?

Students generally benefit from bringing comfortable yoga clothing, personal toiletries, notebooks, writing materials and any personal items required for an extended stay. A yoga mat may be required depending on what the school provides. Weather-appropriate clothing is also important in Dehradun, because conditions vary by season. We provide a final packing list to enrolled students before the batch begins.

Can I teach yoga after completing a 200 Hour Yoga TTC?

A 200-hour course provides foundational teaching education and helps students begin developing the knowledge and confidence required to guide yoga classes. Professional requirements can vary depending on the country, employer, studio or organisation where you plan to teach. Completing the course should therefore be viewed as an important educational foundation rather than the end of your development as a yoga teacher.

Why should I choose Dehradun for yoga teacher training?

Dehradun combines accessibility with the natural atmosphere of Uttarakhand's Himalayan foothills. Students can study in a greener and comparatively relaxed environment while remaining close to Rishikesh and other Himalayan destinations. For learners who want yoga education without being entirely removed from urban facilities, a Yoga Teacher Training in Dehradun provides a useful balance between focused study, nature and practical connectivity.
