If you’re searching for a homestay on Mussoorie Road in Dehradun, you probably want two things at once: to be close enough to drive up to Mussoorie whenever you like, and far enough from the hill-station crowds to actually sleep. That’s exactly where Shivoham Retreat sits.
We’re a small, family-run homestay in Malsi, just off Mussoorie Road on Jakhan Jodi Road near Sinola. Three rooms, a maximum of eight guests, a garden, and the Mussoorie hills right in front of the balcony.

Where exactly we are
Malsi is the stretch of Dehradun where Mussoorie Road leaves the city and starts to climb. It’s where the Dehradun Zoo (the old Malsi Deer Park) is, and where the houses thin out into fields and forest. We’re a short way off the main road, which means you get the easy access without the traffic noise.

Why stay here instead of in Mussoorie
You skip the weekend jam
On long weekends and holidays, the road into Mussoorie and parking on the Mall can take longer than the drive itself. Staying at the bottom of Mussoorie Road lets you go up early, enjoy the hills before the rush, and come back down to a quiet house by evening.
It’s better value
Our rooms start at ₹3,500 a night with breakfast included, which is often less than a comparable room in Mussoorie on a busy weekend. And you get space: big rooms, a garden, and a fully equipped kitchen guests are welcome to use.
You still see the hills
The Valley Facing Room has a private balcony looking out over the valley towards the Mussoorie hills. Sunrise from that balcony is the reason most couples book it.

The rooms and what’s included
- Luxury Valley Facing Room: 2 guests, private balcony, AC, from ₹3,500 a night
- Luxury Studio Room: 2 guests, spacious open layout, AC, from ₹4,000 a night
- Harmony House: the entire two-bedroom house, up to 4 guests, garden access, from ₹6,000 a night
Every rate includes daily breakfast, welcome chai, Wi-Fi, free parking and use of the garden and kitchen. Food is vegetarian and home-cooked, much of it from our own permaculture garden. Check-in is from 12:00, check-out by 11:00. See photos of each room on the rooms page.
What to do from here
Robber’s Cave is a five-minute walk. Go at opening time and you’ll have the stream almost to yourself. Mussoorie is about an hour up the road for Mall Road, Camel’s Back Road and Lal Tibba. Sahastradhara and FRI are each around a 20–30 minute drive depending on traffic. If you’d rather stay put, join a sunrise yoga or pranayama session on the deck, walk the village lanes, or just sit in the garden.
Coming from Delhi for two or three days? Our weekend plan from Delhi to Dehradun and Mussoorie lays out a simple itinerary.

Who it suits
Families who want space and a kitchen. Couples who want quiet. People working remotely for a week who need Wi-Fi and a desk. Yoga lovers who want a morning practice without a full retreat schedule. It doesn’t suit big groups or parties: we host eight guests at most, and the house is calm by design. Pets and smoking aren’t allowed.
